The
Yuansantze Flood Diversion Project and
the Keelung River Overall Improvement
Early-stage Project are top priority
and urgent flood control projects, and
they will be expedited to complete in
advance. The Water Resources Agency
of the Minister of Economic Affairs
will coordinate with the governments
of Taipei County and Keelung City to
manage the quality control of the project
to mitigate the inconvenient effects
on traffic and environment during the
construction period, and seek the support
of the local residents.
So far Keelung
River only reaches the initial 10-year-flood
protection crireria while the Flood
Forecast and Inundation Alarm Systems
are near completion. During the constructions,
the risks of flood are still high, and
the Water Resources Agency, MOEA, will
coordinate with the governments of Taipei
County and Keelung City to execute inundation
protection and rescue drills to improve
the residents?ability to prevent or
prepare against calamities.
Natural material
will be utilized for the construction
and water-accessable facilities will
be set up in the river channels, exploiting
diverse ecological spaces and creating
multiple natural ecologies of safe river
environments.
